If I measure the bird
by its trill, it should be bigger.
Twilight radiates from a magenta
monsoon sky hanging low around
my shoulders. I push through the
balmy scent of soaked green earth
to get closer.
Purple rumped sunbird.
A mouthful for one
barely three inches long.
A name filled with
that it reflects the bird’s bright
spirit and the energy it imparts
that colour is a natural ingredient
and nature its own adornment
