Black Velvet

We shared our lives in alternating shades
of lively fluorescences
companionable pastels
restful mellowed tones
to a suffusion of something darker
that persists to this day

Comforted by the serenity that only words
render when nothing else remains
Strengthened by bonds so deep that you could
sink in and never glimpse the sky

a gentle smear of black velvet survives
when an old dog sighs her last

far away from home
among strangers

Loved the imagery in this one. The mellifluous tone of the first two verses made me sigh with pleasure. Used your word 🙂
