Listen for the hum of poetry

it speaks from the patient
slump of a grey heron’s back
master fisherman who
mastered the zen of waiting
the aching arch of a dancer’s
foot on a hardwood floor
from rocks that funnel a singer’s
voice with the strength to fuel city lights
purple heart that crowds the path or
where yours takes you

listen and you’ll hear it

if your rough tools can beam a strand of
the world as it is, a poet’s work is done
